There is an age old saying which goes something like ‘The English is to Tea like the Italian is too Coffee”, and this was something which held most true in my family.
Growing up in a country where Espresso was practically invented, my family had this unsaid bond with coffee for more than three generations and was passed on me from a very early age as a family heritage.
Even though I don’t have any professional experience as a coffee taster, I for one know how I want my espresso to be like. Which is why I mostly prefer making my own hot cup of coffee.
Choosing a good commercial espresso machines make sense
Having traveled some of the top coffee destinations around the world, I did manage to come across few interesting commercial espresso machines. Which always did the job right to create the perfect cup of coffee with any type of beans used, every single time.
And not sharing it these espresso makers with the world will be nothing short of a crime. So here’s my personal review of the la Pavoni BAR-STAR 2V-R, which has turned into one of my most favorite espresso machines over time.
The La Pavoni BAR-STAR 2V-R
The Espresso machine which was first invented and patented by an Italian Mechanic named Luigi Bezzera in 1901. In 1905, Bezzera sold his patent for the Espresso Machine to Desiderio Pavoni, who began manufacturing it commercial in his small town in Milan, and the rest is history.
The reason I went ahead and gave you the brief history lesson on Espresso Machines, is because without the overview it would be impossible to understand why La Pavoni is only name when it comes to Espresso Machines. And with more than 110 years of experience, you have to be sure that with La Pavoni you only get the finest cup of Espresso.
The latest installment from La Pavoni, The BAR-STAR 2V-R is a classic machines which doesn’t only make one of the finest cups of espresso.
But also looks beautiful sitting at the counter. Crafted beautifully in Red, the BAR-STAR 2V-R is one of those machines which you can stare at for hours.
But if you move on from its good looks and onto its features, the story gets a little better. The BAR-STAR 2V-R’s copper boiler with auto shut-off is one of the main features which sets it apart from other espresso machines in the same range.
This feature not only allows you to get your cup of coffee within minutes, but it also provides that added layer of security which comes in extremely handy in commercial use. To get a full list of specs and features, take a look at the spec sheet below:
|1||Digital Control Pad for ease of use and operation|
|2||NSF/CSA Certified Group II Commercial Espresso Machine|
|4||Energy Saving Power Switch|
|5||Copper Boiler with 14 liter Capacity|
|7||12 Liter Water Softner|
|8||2 Steam Wands|
|9||Included Installation Kit|
|10||Warranty: 1 year|
Like any other La Pavoni’s, the BAR-STAR 2V-R has one of the finest balance of pros and cons. But just because I ‘m Italian as well, I am not going to be biased about it and give my own personal thought on what I felt was good and what could use some fixing. So let’s start the list off with the good ol pro’s
What i love of this machine
This means that you get the same doses in your cup of coffee and completely avoid unwanted tastes caused by dosing mistakes made by human errors.
The Microprocessors control also made using the Bar Star 2V-R easier than other espresso machines made for commercial use and the energy saving power saving switch was the cherry on top, which significantly helped reduce power consumptions.
The 14 Liter Copper Boiler was another feature which helped the BAR STAR 2V-R distinctly stand out from the rest, because of three factors.
- 14 Liters Capacity means that there is no need for frequent refills and copper heats the milk/water excellently
- The Auto Shut Off and Manual Reset Thermostat gives that added layer of security which prevents any unwanted accidents at workplace, overloads or fear of short circuit
- The overall look of the BAR STAR 2V-R is not spoiled with the over sized 14 liter boiler.
Last but not the least, I would like to talk about the hot water button which made it a lot easier to pour in water. One of the biggest problems with traditional espresso machines was the old twist key, which had to be turned every time a cup had to be made.
Not only did this give rise to unwanted mistake in the water and milk levels in the coffee, but it also gave way to unwanted overflows. With the hot water button, all the user needs to do is press the button, and the machine takes care of the rest.
The 2 Steam wands also allows hot water and milk to blend perfectly for that beautiful cup of espresso, and 12 liter water softener also does a decent job of reducing the hardness of the water.
What i don’t like of this machine
Any review is incomplete without the cons and the BAR STAR 2V-R is no different.
Despite doing a fairly decent job of making one of the best espresso’s I have ever tasted, the easy to clean rounded body gave way to few problems of its own.
The first and most basic problem of the BAR STAR 2V-R is that the rounded body made it extremely easy to clean the outside, almost as simple as wiping it with a cloth and you’re done. But when you try to clean inside, the same rounded form creates a whole world of trouble.
The on and off button also presents an added difficulty to clean the interiors of the BAR STAR 2V-R, and it would have been a lot better if La Pavoni stuck with their traditional designs for the interior.
With its share of Pro’s, Con’s, Features and Spec’s the la Pavoni BAR-STAR 2V-R is one of the best Espresso Machines for commercial use under the $6000 mark. And if you love your cup of coffee as much as I do, then it would be a shame to miss out on this beauty.
